UKTV Play Unblocked: How to Successfully Access UKTV Play from Anywhere
Anna Paquin won an Academy Award at 11 for "The Piano" in 1994. Despite the expectation that her career might peak there, she's worked steadily in the 25 years since. She's taken on many dark and fascinating roles in movies and TV shows, like Sookie Stackhouse in "True Blood" for seven seasons.
In the new series "Flack," which premiered on Pop on February 21, she portrays Robyn, a "crisis" PR rep who's excellent at rescuing her clients from trouble. In the first scene, for instance, she gives CPR to the young male lover of her closeted soccer - star client. The actions she takes to keep this a secret show that Robyn, whose personal life is messier than her work life, has the emotional detachment needed for her job.
Paquin talked to Decider about the show. How did she get the role of Robyn? She and her husband (her "True Blood" co - star Stephen Moyer) have a production company. About five years ago, this show came to them with a script and outlines for future episodes. She was hooked from the first moment of the first episode. It was dark, funny, strange, and smart, appealing to her and fitting their "vibe," so it was an easy yes.
Was the first scene in the script as seen in the premiere? Yes, it was. It's a dramatic way to introduce the protagonist.
Was it always the plan for her to play Robyn? Yes, when the show came to them, the idea was for them to co - produce and for her to play Robyn.
What happened during the development process? They had a production deal with HBO for a while. HBO commissioned more scripts and considered setting it in the US instead of the UK. But HBO has a limited number of shows each year, and this wasn't going to be one. So, it was shelved. About a year and a half ago, Paquin revisited projects that didn't work out. They tried to revive it, and Pop TV in the US and UKTV in the UK came on board to finance it.
Were there changes for the financing networks? They shot some scenes with different language, but mostly it's the same. It was a creative exercise for the writer to find more interesting ways to say things without using swear words, and sometimes the "sanitized" versions were funnier.
Does she know people like Robyn in her life? In her personal life, no. But she has met such people. The "crisis lifestyle" isn't her scene as she's more into work and works with serious people.
What makes Robyn suitable for her job? Emotionally detaching from her own life is a big factor. Growing up with a mentally ill, substance - abusing mother who committed suicide, she learned to change her behavior to avoid problems. This makes her good at her job as she's not easily shocked. Also, being used to a truth - that - bends environment from her upbringing helps.
What was the idea behind doing the show in London?Given article content: It was always set there. Originally, Robyn was supposed to be from the UK as well. With the input of Pop and the fact that we were trying to, I think, more accurately replicate the world of PR, which is a very international business, and even because the internet makes it so there's no such thing as local news anymore. It made sense to have her be from somewhere else, just kind of exaggerate the degree to which she's kind of her own island. And she's a fish out of water in that environment. And that she has had to learn to swim, because otherwise god knows what it is she to fall back on. Probably nothing.
She's not a social butterfly type, like Eve (Lydia Wilson), the woman she shares her office with. It seems like she lets the crises come to her, in a way.
That's fair, but also her coworker, Eve, is from an incredibly privileged background. And has the luxury of being able to be a bit more of a party girl and behave a bit more fun with her own life. Because ultimately, she doesn't really need the job. And Robyn really, really does. And I think that there's a certain ... there's a hun
